Fibonacci Day: A Day of Patterns and Numerical Relationships

The Math Quarters at The Peck Place School is excited to mark Fibonacci Day!
Preparations are already underway as we design and create Fibonacci related activities for our first through sixth grade students.

But I am sure you are thinking, Fibonacci what?

Leonardo Pisano (Leonardo de Pisa, Leonardo Bonacci) was born in Italy (around 1170) and educated in North Africa. As a child, he was encouraged to study accounting. He recognized the enormous advantages of the mathematical systems used there and introduced  Arabic Numerals (Hindu-Arabic numerals) to the Western world.


Leonardo is known for his published work, Liber abaci. One section of his book led to the introduction of the Fibonacci numbers and the Fibonacci sequence for which he is best remembered today.




The Fibonacci Sequence is the series of numbers:
0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, ...
